Geary Buchanan founded Buchanan Hauling & Rigging after first working for 24 years as an owner-operator. That makes all the difference in how drivers are treated here.
He knows what it’s like out on the road, what kind of challenges drivers face, and he appreciates what a driver goes through.
Geary just believes in our company—that it’s a great place to work, that it’s family-oriented, that everybody knows your name.-Becky Buchanan
Executive Vice President
As the wife of a former driver, Becky knows what it’s like on the road, too. She and Geary spend a great deal of time getting to know the drivers at Buchanan. “We know their name, and we know them by sight,” says Becky. "They walk in the room and talk to Geary. They feel like they’re heard. We’ve had a lot go and come back. When they come back, they don’t look anymore.”
Here at Buchanan, we realize that drivers are what keeps our industry moving forward. “If we don’t have that, we don’t have Buchanan,” says Janice Nawrocki, director of recruiting. “They made us what we are. They know Geary’s door is always open, too.”
Drivers are a part of the family at Buchanan. You’re not a number—you’re invited to the Friday afternoon cookouts. We care about our driver's families, too…and if a driver wants to be at home most nights, we have the routes to make that happen.
In fact, we have all types of routes and all types of freight for all types of drivers. We have new trucks, and our pay is highly competitive, timely and accurate. We even offer comprehensive training through our own Cargo Securement Academy.
But what really sets us apart is how we view drivers. Geary’s perspective from the driver’s seat shapes things from the top down. He’s been there, done that. He knows what he’s talking about, and he’s not going to have you do something he wouldn’t do.

The fleet has done a phenomenal job of meeting challenges. They won’t say they’ve done a good job, because that’s just what they’re supposed to do. But they have. What I enjoy most about my job is my drivers. That’s why I came back to this side of the business—because I missed the drivers.-Sherry Collins
Vice President, Safety
